NCLEX-LPN practice questions for practical nurses

The NCLEX-PN is the exam for licensed practical and vocational nurses (LPN and LVN). Our LPN module has its own question bank, notes and classes written for the practical nurse role.

  • A separate PN question bank
  • NGN case studies and adaptive exams
  • Notes and live classes for LPN

Written for the practical nurse role

LPN questions focus on what the practical nurse does: collecting data, reinforcing teaching, giving medicines safely, recognising changes and reporting them. They follow the NCLEX-PN test plan, from coordinated care and safety to pharmacological therapies and physiological adaptation.

  • Questions in every NCLEX format, including NGN items
  • Rationales that explain each option
  • Scores by subject and Client Needs category

Adaptive exams with the PN passing standard

Our LPN Adaptive Exams use the NCLEX-PN passing standard and the same rules as the real exam: 85 to 150 questions, five hours, and a result once it is 95% sure. You see your chance of passing before you book.

  1. NCLEX-LPNPhysiological Adaptation · Single choice

    1. A client with type 1 diabetes is shaky and sweaty. The blood glucose is 58 mg/dL, and the client is alert and able to swallow. What should the practical nurse do first?

    • A Give 15 g of fast-acting carbohydrate, such as 120 mL (4 oz) of fruit juice
    • B Give the next scheduled dose of insulin
    • C Give glucagon intramuscularly
    • D Recheck the blood glucose in one hour
    Show answer and rationale

    Answer: A

Follow the 15-15 rule: 15 g of fast-acting carbohydrate, then recheck the glucose in 15 minutes and repeat if it is still under 70 mg/dL. Glucagon is for a client who cannot swallow safely, and insulin would lower the glucose further.

  2. NCLEX-LPNCoordinated Care · Single choice

    2. Which task is within the scope of practice of the practical nurse?

    • A Complete the admission assessment of a new client
    • B Reinforce teaching about a prescribed inhaler
    • C Write the initial nursing care plan
    • D Triage clients arriving at the emergency department
    Show answer and rationale

    Answer: B

The practical nurse reinforces teaching the registered nurse has started and collects data. Initial assessments, initial care plans and triage need the judgement of the registered nurse.

  3. NCLEX-LPNPharmacological Therapies · Fill in the blank

    3. Amoxicillin 500 mg by mouth is prescribed. The suspension available is 250 mg per 5 mL. How many mL should the nurse give?

    Show answer and rationale

    Answer: 10 mL

    Desired over have, times volume: 500 mg ÷ 250 mg × 5 mL = 10 mL.

  4. NCLEX-LPNSafety and Infection Control · Single choice

    4. A client has Clostridioides difficile (C. diff) diarrhea. Which action by the nurse is correct after leaving the room?

    • A Use alcohol-based hand rub
    • B Wash hands with soap and water
    • C Remove the gown in the hallway
    • D Reuse the same gloves for the next client
    Show answer and rationale

    Answer: B

    C. diff forms spores that alcohol does not kill, so hands are washed with soap and running water. The client is on contact precautions: gown and gloves are removed before leaving the room and never reused.

FAQ

Questions about NCLEX-LPN practice questions

Is the NCLEX-LPN the same as the NCLEX-PN?

Yes. The official name is NCLEX-PN (practical nurse). It is taken by licensed practical nurses (LPN) and licensed vocational nurses (LVN).

Can I use NCLEX-RN questions to study for the NCLEX-PN?

They overlap, but the roles differ: RN questions expect you to assess, plan and delegate, which the practical nurse does not. Practising PN questions trains the answers the NCLEX-PN expects.

Can I subscribe to both RN and LPN?

Yes. Each module is subscribed to on its own, and one account can have both.
